How Long Does It Take to Replace an AC Unit?

1. The Square Footage of Your Home
The larger your home, the more vents need to be installed throughout the rooms.
2. The Location of Your Home
If you have a backyard, it’ll be a lot easier to install an air conditioner than if you live on the 32nd floor of a highrise.
3. The Condition of Your Home’s Ductwork
Cracks, leaks, gaps, dirt, debris, mold, mildew… with time, all of these issues will creep into your ductwork. This is another reason why it’s so important to schedule routine HVAC maintenance at least once a year. If they’re not properly cared for and they need to be replaced when the AC is installed, this will add hours to the job.
4. Whether You’re Replacing the Entire AC System
If the inside portion of your AC needs to be replaced but the outside doesn’t (yet), the clock is ticking on the outside portion. And vice versa. This is why we recommend changing the entire system at the same time. Doing so guarantees compatibility meaning the air conditioner works efficiently.
That being said, if you’re on a tight budget, it’s ok to replace one portion at a time. Just keep in mind that soon you’ll have to replace the other. And obviously, if you’re only changing one portion at a time, the installation will take less time.
Generally speaking, on an easy-to-install location where new ductwork is not necessary, one full day is enough to get the job done. Any complications will add time and cost to complete the installation.
